Family Table is a private, invite-only recipe app run by Chad Gustafson for his family. It is not a commercial service, nothing is sold, and there is no charge. These terms are here so that everyone knows what to expect — they are written to be read, not to be survived.
Accounts exist only by invitation. There is no sign-up form. A household owner invites you, and they can remove you from the household at any time. If you were not invited, you do not have permission to use the app or to sign in.
You sign in with Google or with a one-time link sent to your email address. There are no passwords, which means your email account is the key to your recipes — keep it secure, and do not forward a sign-in link to anyone. Tell Chad if you think someone else has reached your account.
Family members under 13 may be given an account by a household owner, who is their parent or guardian and is responsible for their use of the app.
Your recipes, photos, notes and comments remain yours. By adding them you allow the app to store them and show them to the people in your household, and to anyone you deliberately give a share link to. That permission ends when the content is deleted.
Please only add content you have the right to add. Photographing a cookbook page or a recipe card for your own kitchen is ordinary personal use; republishing someone else's collection is not. Do not upload anything unlawful, or anything about another person that they would not want stored here.
Worth knowing: when you import a recipe by photo, URL or pasted text, that content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be read and turned into structured ingredients and steps. It is a machine reading, so check the result — quantities and temperatures are worth a second look before you cook from them. See the privacy policy for what leaves our servers and when.
A share link lets anyone holding it view one recipe without signing in. Treat it as public: once you send it, you cannot control who it is passed on to. You can revoke a link at any time, though a photo someone has already opened may stay reachable at its own address for a while.
Ingredients, cooking times and any nutrition or allergen information here were typed in by family members or read out of an image by software. None of it has been checked by anyone qualified. If an allergy or a medical condition is involved, verify it yourself rather than trusting the page.
This app runs on a small hobby budget and is maintained in spare time. It may be slow, briefly offline, or changed without notice, and features can come and go. If a recipe card is the only copy of your grandmother's handwriting, keep the original — do not let this be the only place it exists.
You can ask Chad to delete your account and its contents at any time, and he will. He may also close an account that is being misused, or shut the whole thing down if running it stops making sense. If that ever happens, everyone with an account will be emailed first and given a way to take their recipes with them.
The app is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will work, stay available, or keep your data safe from every possible failure. It is a family project offered for free, and Chad is not liable for losses arising from using it. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be signed away.
If these terms change materially, everyone with an account will be emailed.
